What do you love AND HOPE TO NEVER LOSE TO CLIMATE CHAOS?

What do you love AND HOPE TO NEVER LOSE TO CLIMATE CHAOS?

The Climate Ribbon uses art and ritual to grieve what we each stand to lose to Climate Chaos, and affirms our solidarity as we unite to fight against it.

“We are tied together in the single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of mutuality. And whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.” —Dr. Martin Luther King

People from all over the world are sharing what they most love — "Next year’s harvest" or "Miami, my city" — that they don’t want to lose to Climate Chaos. They're sharing ribbons and committing themselves to work to beat back Climate Chaos so that our worst fears never come true. Together, our commitments weave a giant thread connecting all of us us as we work for a healthy, sustainable planet.

Will you help realize this vision of collective reflection, ritual, and redemptive action?

Our Stories

Our Stories

Participants at COP21 in Paris share their thoughts about climate change

We are together. We are with you. We’ve got your back.

May these ribbons be our roots—to the Earth and to each other—and may their strength help us weather the storm.

May we care for each other and be the protectors and champions of each other’s hopes and dreams.

May the solidarity we witnessed today be a foundation for our movement. May it weave our stories together, and make our movement real.

There are several ways to participate...

Host a Climate Ribbon ritual

You can host an event with your community, faith group, local organization, union, or family.  In the Climate Ribbon ritual, participants are invited to find a stranger’s ribbon, read it aloud, have the group answer “We are with you,” or “We’ve got your back!” Then they tie the ribbon onto their wrists and take it home with them.

Make YOUR OWN RIBBON

  • Look within. Pause for a moment and consider what is worth saving. What do you love most that you hope to never lose to Climate Chaos? Be specific and personal. What’s at stake for you?

  • Find a piece of ribbon that is about 2 feet long. Consider recycling old ribbons from gift wrapping, or ripping an old sheet or piece of fabric into strips (ideally, the less imported new materials, the more eco-friendly, the better). You’re welcome to take creative liberty to make sashes or other sizes. Pick a ribbon that is wide enough to write on.

  • Write your phrase on the left side of your ribbon with a Sharpie or other waterproof marker. Add your name, age and where you live on the right side of the ribbon, leaving the middle blank. Some examples we’ve received:

“The coastline of Manhattan.                                          Andy, New York City, age 25.”
“The hope that my children can live healthy lives.         Jon, Milwaukee, age 34.”

  • Add your ribbon to a tree in your community, send it to a friend, tie it to a fence — there is no wrong way to make a Climate Ribbon! You can send your ribbon to project HQ:
